“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” – Tony Robbins
Tony Robbins has inspired millions of people with his ideas and his story. His name has come to be synonymous with happiness and success. He is one of the most well-known life coaches, and we want to share some of his most inspiring ideas.
Robbins did not have a smooth start into his life. He grew up in a low-income family who often couldn’t even afford to celebrate Christmas.
From this crucial experience, Robbins decided to follow his passion and help people in need. He wrote several best-selling books, started his foundation and supports people all over the world to find a meaningful life.
What can we learn from this successful man? We collected four of his tips.
1) Failure is your friend
“I’ve come to believe that all my past failure and frustration were actually laying the foundation for the understandings that have created the new level of living I now enjoy.” – Tony Robbins
Tony Robbins does not have an issue to talk about his failures. Because they taught him something important. He could have given up after each defeat, but he decided that these bumps in the road won’t stop him from working on his goal.
You learn through failure, and you won’t become an expert in anything without starting somewhere – and failing. Having bad experiences will be part of your path. There is no effortless approach. You will feel anger, frustration or pain on the way.
But the things we work the hardest for, we value the most.
2) Find out what scares you
“The only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself.” – Tony Robbins
There is one question in your life that you will find yourself asking over and over. Tony names it the “primary question". It has a lot to do with what you value the most and therefore also scares you the most.
If you value your appearance and your social status, it can be “Am I going to look stupid?”.
If you value achievement and like to reach the next level, your primary question might be “What is missing?”. You are so focused on achieving more, that you might stop appreciating what you have. Your question might prevent you from not valuing the moment or not
But you can change your primary question for the better. A new primary question can be: “How can I appreciate the wonders in my life and share them with the people that I love?”
What is your primary question? Change it, and you change your life.
3) Control the meaning you give your life
“You want to change your life? Control the only thing you can control: the meaning you give something.”- Tony Robbins
There is only one thing we can ultimately control in our life: our meanings. We can decide how we respond to life in each and every moment. We are not able to control the events that happen in the world, but we do get to decide how we respond to them.
We decide which meaning we give to challenges. Do we view our life as a fun playground and classroom always giving us new challenges to grow? Or, do we view life and setbacks as personal punishment?
Choose your perspective.
4) Embrace who you have become
"Your past does not equal your future.” – Tony Robbins
Humans need to be certain about who we are. It gives you a feeling of clarity to be able to say: “I know who I am.”
But the other side of that coin is that you end up rejecting new opportunities cause you think “I’m not that kind of person.”
Even when it comes to good things. We believe we are not good enough for a particular job or we cannot try out a new hobby.
Most of us have trapped ourselves in an old identity that we never updated to what we are today. We think that we are who we were, even though our character is fluid over time. We learn every day and experience new things – of course, this will change our identity.
It might be about time to start your own business or try a new profession. Find out who you are.
Time to update your identity and embrace new possibilities.
